About

I’m a technology executive with an engineering background. At EasyPost, I lead the company’s technology organization and strategy across platform, product, and experience.

My earlier work was close to the systems themselves: cloud APIs at Engine Yard, then API development, internal engineering, and site reliability at Fastly. At EasyPost, my responsibilities expanded through platform engineering and financial infrastructure into company-wide technology leadership.

The scope has changed, but the underlying question has remained useful: what makes a system easier to operate, and what prevents it from producing the result it exists to deliver? Sometimes the answer is an architectural change. Sometimes it is clearer ownership, better data, different incentives, or stopping work that no longer makes sense.

That is how I approach technology leadership: connect the technical decisions to the organization that has to execute them and the economics that have to support them. The selected work page gives specific examples, including my 2012 talk at Sapporo RubyKaigi on reducing deployment friction.

I’m based in Oakland, California, and hold a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

I contribute changes to the tools I use. Selected merged contributions include work on ogen, jnv, and hotreload.nvim, alongside earlier Sinatra contributions, with dates and links to the upstream pull requests. My Ruby library work also includes ActiveRecord compatibility in critic. My work on fog-aws belongs to an earlier period, not a current focus.

I use Neovim for coding and personal knowledge management, and have supported the project through recurring donations for years. Supporting Neovim is separate from my code contributions to its plugin ecosystem.
